Wi-Fi hot spots via satellite bring broadband Internet to hotels

Hotel guests at the Athena Grand Hotel in Athens and the Gelina Village Resort & Spa in Corfu can now surf the Internet high-speed, thanks to Video & Suono, a Skylogic distributor in Greece.

Using a D-STAR antenna and a wireless gateway, these hotels now offer clients a true broadband Internet experience both at fixed terminals and at wireless hot spots, via the EUROBIRD™ 3 satellite at 33 degrees East.

With its 'seeing is believing campaign' Skylogic, Eutelsat's broadband affiliate wins the best new product rollout award during satellite 2005. The award recognizes the efficiency of the product roll-out campaign that exhibited real-life examples, case studies and key demonstrations of Skylogic broadband services during year 2004 and illustrated the successful use of the services in different countries and markets. The jury was also particularly impressed by the validation of Skylogic's solution through the participation, together with its sales channel partners, in high profile events around the world such as MTV awards in Europe, Formula 1: Renault F1, Minardi F1.

2004 MTV Europe Music Award's Press Core obtains Broadband Connectivity with KooKu WiFi and Skylogic Satellite Services

Skylogic, Eutelsat's broadband affiliate, which specialises in two-way satellite connectivity, was called upon to provide mission-critical broadband services at this year's MTV Europe Music Awards, hosted in Rome. Skylogic worked in tandem with UK-based KooKu in bringing high-speed IP connectivity to the venue, for real-time transmission of thousands of digital images and e-mail reports as the event unfolded.

Eutelsat, one of the world’s leading satellite operators, announced today that it has been selected by NetHope as a supplier for 2-way satellite broadband connectivity for aid organisations in over 100 locations in Europe, Africa, Asia and South America.

NetHope is a collaborative organisation formed by the world’s largest humanitarian aid organisations that provides IT equipment and solutions in countries where its members execute their programmes and projects.

Blu Hotels, the Italian hotel chain, choses D-STAR for its administration network

Blu Hotels, the Italian hotel chain, switches its administration network over to satellite using the D-STAR service, via Skylogic, Eutelsat's Italian subsidiary. The hotel chain has chosen Icarusnet, a Skylogic distributor specialised in network engineering, system integration and project management. The satellite network, carried on Eutelsat's D-STAR broadband service, links the chain's headquarters in Salò, in the Garda Lake area, to all its 19 hotels situated throughout Italy, as well as to partner travel agencies.



CSI-Piemonte and Skylogic offer broadband internet by satellite for the whole province of Turin

Thanks to the use of satellites, even the most disadvantaged local organizations in the Turin region in terms of connectivity can soon have permanent high-speed network connections.
At the initiative of the Province of Turin, CSI-Piemonte and Skylogic (a Eutelsat company providing IP services) have signed a contract to provide a digital satellite network, to replace conventional narrow-band connections where necessary.

D-STAR service used to broadcast weather programmes

As part of the Météo Montagne event at the French ski resort of Alpe d’Huez, the 5th-7th December, a video camera was installed to stream back live pictures of prevailing weather conditions to the Paris-based broadcasting centre of the Météo weather channel. The service was carried via D-STAR.

combining two-way satellite broadband with Wi-Fi for wireless Internet access at an altitude of over 1,800 metres

Six PCs have been installed at the Alpe d'Huez Tourist Office, 'le Sporting' restaurant and the ski resort's Internet Café. Eutelsat's D-Star service is being used to provide a two-way satellite broadband connection at 2 Mbps with no need for a connection to a local terrestrial network.

Eutelsat, with the support of France Telecom, is demon-strating the full capabilities of secure wireless access by combining satellite Internet and Wi-Fi technologies. With the service demonstrated in Alpe d'Huez users can establish a broadband Internet connection with their laptop or PDA without having to plug it in.

For the pleasure of holidaymakers in the French Alpine ski resort of Alpe-d'Huez, Eutelsat has set up a satellite Web Café at 7,800 feet in a location beyond reach of any high-speed terrestrial network.

Using its D-Star broadband service, Eutelsat is providing skiers who stop at at the Marmottes restaurant above
Alpe d'Huez with an interactive satellite broadband connection through three PCs. The service is hosted on Eutelsat's Rambouillet (France) platform and uses
capacity on its ATLANTIC BIRD™ 2 satellite. A high-quality video telephone is also connected to the D-Star terminal
for satellite video-conferencing from the Web Café.

the web throughout the winter sports season.
